Valentine's Weekend at SnowShoe

Well, it's been since our 5th anniversary (3 years ago) that Michael and I have been able to go skiing. We go every Valentine's weekend with first cousins in the family and always have a great time. We couldn't go 2 years ago because I was 9 months pregnant and wanted nothing more than to deliver little Luke. Last year we weren't able to go because Ella and Brett were both sick and my mothering side was not wanting to leave my babies behind while they weren't feeling well.
So, we finally made it this year! I had been looking forward to skiing for SO LONG! I love to ski...love it, love it, LOVED IT! Did I mention I love it?
We left Friday around 3:30/4:00 and 7 hours later we arrived. It was snowing most of the way there and traffic was slowed down to 30mph on the highway. We stayed in a great cabin and spent Friday night laughing until we cried.
Saturday it was on. I was ready..to..ski. We opted for twilight skiing (12-4:30 and then 6-10pm) I love to night ski also and couldn't wait to spend my whole day going down the slopes. Well....things just don't always go as planned, do they? Especially if you are me.
Valentine's weekend is always packed and we know that. We expect to wait in long lines for the lifts to go up to the top of the slopes. We also know it's going to be cold, but I had no idea just how cold I'd be going up those lifts. We were completely covered up. There was absolutely NO exposed skin. They had a frostbite warning posted and everything. It actually snowed almost the whole day which was great because I've never skiied while it was snowing. But the snow combined with the winds was more than I could bare. It was about 14 degrees on top of the mountain and that didn't include the wind chill factor. Needless to say, the girls lasted until 4:30 and we went back to the cabin. Only our brave and daring men stayed to night ski. If I could've felt my fingers I would've stayed but there were in need of some thawing out.
I got to do a few runs at least, but not nearly as much as I wanted. I did however have a great time with the girls. I can't wait to do it again!
