Goodbye AGR House

Could there be anything more heart-wrenching then watching a place burn where you spent some of the best years of your life? This is exactly how I felt as I watched video of the AGR house in Clemson burn.
It was the place where I went for parties, it was where I made lifelong friends, it was where I learned about the the bonds of brotherhood, it was where I would laugh until I cried, it was where we created our own Clemson traditions, it was where I became a fraternity little sister and then later their sweetheart, it was where we all grew up together carefully navigating the waters of adulthood, it was where I learned what it was like to have an older brother (or 50) watch after you and protect you, it was a place I always felt safe, it was a second home, and most importantly it was where Michael and I fell in love.
Looking at the remains is horrible. It was as if someone had died. Like the end of an era was gone forever. The backhall will never be the same.

Watching grown men look at the place they called home for several years was so sad. No one really knew what to say. I had no idea how much that house meant to me until this.

A true sign that the fraternity will make it and recover from this horrible incident. Those letters are still hanging on.

113 Calhoun will come back better than ever I'm sure, but I know deep in my heart it just won't be the same. Michael and I will never be able to take our children to the place we met and spent so many good times with friends. Through all the sadness there is a silver lining- no one was hurt. I am so thankful to be going back to a burnt house than several funerals.

Marji, I ran across your blog and started reading. I couldn't help but comment on this one. I was also a little sis for AGR from 1987-89. I remember many days spend there. So sad to see it go, but such wonderful memories!

I could not say it any better than you. I am not sure if you remember but John was in AGR after Michael graduated. We too have many wonderful memories.
