What do I scrapbook and where do I do it?

Thanks for the questions ladies. The first one I'll answer is where do I scrapbook. If you read my post below, you'll find out that I spend most of my time crafting at our dining room table. This is great, but our dining room is casual and where we eat EVERY meal. That means there is a lot of clean up for me after every craft session- which stinks! I'm looking forward to moving so that when I'm in the middle of a project, I can leave it out on the table, shut the doors so no one can see my mess and then come back to it later. When Michael and I first got married, I can remember working on our honeymoon album on the floor in our bedroom. Bottom line- if it's something you want to do, you can make time and find a place to do it.

What do I scrapbook? Anything and everything! I used to only scrapbook people and events but then I realized that scrapbooking goes so much deeper than that. It's more than just the who, what, when and where. I love pages of my children and family, birthdays, vacations, etc. But I LOVE to make a layout based on someone's personality. The journaling makes these pages come alive and really tells what each of us are like.
I guess you have to take a step back and ask yourself, what do I want my scrapbooks to accomplish? For me, I want to remember our lives and pass it on to the next generation. I want them to know what we were like. See my handwriting and cherish it all as part of their history. So I scrapbook the good times and the bad times. I scrapbook my family. I scrapbook our daily routines. I scrapbook anything that I know will easily be forgotten. Life is in the details and I don't want mine to fade away with time. I want my children to see that I was always there for every event, but more importantly, I remember that my son used to call a tractor a "gunga"., I remember my daughter's fascination with "squirmes" (we are still trying to figure out what they are), and I remember their first jokes. Thes are the little tidbits that make life so worth living. Of course I have the first day of school, family vacations and all of the "expected" pages, but I like to dive deeper to reveal who we really are.
My challenge to you is for you to do the same. Don't just scrapbook the usual pages, go out of the box and make a page about what makes you tick, make a page about your children and their quirky habits, etc.
Need time to make these pages? I'm hosting a crop on Sept. 20th at Dance South studio in Clinton, SC from 10am-6pm. For only $25, you get 8 hours of uninterrupted scrapbooking time. Work on whatever you want. I'll provide the space, lunch and snacks, and some free gifts! What can you lose? Take time now to preserve the history you're making. (Deadline to register, with payment, is Sept. 10th) Happy crafting!
