To say my little girl was excited about this field trip would be a HUGE understatement. Ella is just like most girls her age and 100% in love with horses right now. I thought this infatuation would pass, but she has been begging for riding lessons for ove a year now. Seeing as how I'm the fun mom that I am, (why are you laughing?) I decided we would do a unit study for school on horses. She eagerly participated every day which was wonderful. Brett and Luke enjoyed learning about horses, or neigh-neighs as Luke calls them, as well.
It only seemed fitting that after our study of horses we should visit a horse farm. I wanted the kids, especially Ella, to see just how much work is involved with caring for horses. (I get asked daily if we will buy her a horse) Luckily, we have a horse famr right across the street from our house and a guy that works with Michael and is a friend of ours, regularly helps feed the horses there. Long story short- we tagged along one afternoon to help out.
This girl is in her element.
Putting out the hay
Watching as one of the younger aka 'rowdier' horses is fed. This was a really fun and impromptu field trip. I had originally planned on driving about 45 minutes from our house to visit a farm that raises Arabians (one of the breeds we studied) but then when the opportunity presented itself (or more like I had a DUH- there is a horse farm across the street from our house moment!) we jumped on it and I'm so glad we did!
